EARLY INTERVENTION/CORE DEVELOPMENTAL ASSESSMENT
- Complete developmental assessment for children under three years old.
- An experienced team of at least 2 professionals will conduct a complete developmental assessment to be conducted at the child’s home, preschool, day care or place of the parent/guardian’s choice.
- Developmental areas being assessed are communication, cognitive, social, fine and gross motor skills.
- Parents may choose to complete a family assessment. A family assessment is a description of the family’s resources, priorities, and concerns related to their child’s development.
- Specialists available are Speech Language Pathologists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologist and Special Education teachers.
- All evaluators are experienced and licensed professionals when required. Special education teachers are NY State certified.
PRESCHOOL EVALUATIONS
- Complete assessments for children from three to five years of age.
- Psychological evaluation: A complete assessment completed by a psychologist. This is a state required component. The assessment evaluates the child’s learning and social emotional skills.
- Education Assessment: An education assessment must also be complete to observe the child in his/her natural setting (home/preschool).
- Social History: You will be asked to provide information about your child’s developmental history (e.g., first words, when he/she first crawled and walked, age of toilet training, etc.) as well as general family information.
- Physical Exam: Required by state law, this is a general assessment of your child’s health, vision and hearing, and immunization record. This information may be gathered from your child’s physician.
- Other: Comprehensive tests to address your child’s specific needs, such as an educational, speech and language, physical and/or occupational therapy, audiological, may be administered.
- All testing will be provided at no cost to you.
- Parent(s)/guardian can withdraw their consent for the evaluation at any time in the process. Once parental consent is withdrawn, the CPSE process stops.
